I envy contest bloggers. They can automatically join any cool blog contest they can find and their readers don’t hate them for it (because it’s their niche). They get prizes just for blogging about their topic. Their style of writing isn’t challenging at all and yet they reap all the rewards.
Why couldn’t I be a contest blogger?

I wouldnt say cheating but they sure are annoying and push up reader counts etc but the readers have no interest, only to drop the rss feed later again. But some claim success with competitions so I guess its just my opinion.

I agree with @Esvl.
BTW I’m holding a contest now and find out there is 1 person make 2 blog post just to increase their chance of winning.

At my blog, all I do is host contests. My contests are actually fun though, not like “Hey, subscribe to my feed”, but more like, “Hey, what board game would make the worst roommate?” The readers choose each week’s winner and there are prizes. It is cheating. Epic Fail on their parts.

I agree with the first comment, it is a great link bait but it always goes back to content, unless you have great content you will not keep those readers for the long term!

I would also vote for you!!

I have been to blogs that have contest’s all the time. There is no reason to go there other than to win things. I have never subscribed to one.

I have a separate blog on unused domain for the purpose of contest entry and aging the domain. Your point does make sense actually.

I know, right? I’ve seen so much of those blogs and it’s kinda spooky (for me) how they earn so much without exerting too much effort.

it’s not actually cheating. it’s just that it is easy for them to blog about the contest because it is their niche.

I wouldn’t say cheating, since nobody is preventing you from doing it. Although, they do tend to inflate the numbers a bit, and usually people will be too lazy to unsubscribe, so advertisers don’t get their money’s worth.

Been thinking about this myself, with a twist.
Having the contest be submitting relevant content for my site. Great entries get published, winner gets their electric bill paid for the month.
I’m aware, though, that the contest aspect means I may get a ton a junk entries, even though I’d judge on merit, not a random drawing.
